A colloquialism is an informal expression that is used more often in relaxed conversation than in formal speech or writing

Here are a list of some colloquialisms and their meanings

1.   Poppycock - something ridiculous and possibly untrue

2.   Posh - something or someone that is very fancy

3.   Rubbish - an exclamation meaning something is untrue or of poor quality

4.   Skive - to skip work or school

5.   Smarmy - smug or snobby with a false earnestness

6.   Strop - a bad mood or sulk

7.   Swot - a very serious, possibly geeky, student

8.   Tosh - something that's untrue

9.   Whinge - to whine and complain

10.                security blanket - anything that an adult person uses to reduce anxiety

11.                shooting gallery - a building (usually abandoned) where drug addicts buy and use heroin
